Title:
NetworkManager reports nonexistent networks with garbage ESSIDs --
  Broadcom BCM4311 b43

Status in The Linux Mint Distribution:
  Invalid
Status in “network-manager” package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
I use Linux Mint 9 Isadora on a Acer Aspire 5610Z laptop.
  The wireless network card is:
05:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4311 802.11b/g WLAN (rev
01)
I am using the Broadcom B43 wireless driver, installed by the "Hardware
drivers"-tool.

  This is not a serious problem, but it is annoying;
Sometimes, without any logical reason, Network Manager finds wireless
networks that don't even exist.
These networks have long names with strange symbols.
  Here is a screenshot:

If I deactivate and reactivate networking, the problem goes away.
I have seen this in Ubuntu also.
