Upgraded to Quantal, changed default settings set by Evolution to those
mentioned in Bug Description, and I can now successfully send E-Mails. A
bug still exists in the default settings set by Evolution in Quantal,
but it is not important for me to see this fixed.

** Changed in: evolution (Ubuntu)
       Status: New => Invalid

** Attachment removed: "CAMEL_DEBUG=all evolution &> evo.log"

Title:
Evolution receives GMail E-Mail but unable to send in Xubuntu 12.04

Status in “evolution” package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
  1) lsb_release -rd
  Description: Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS
  Release: 12.04

  2) apt-cache policy evolution
  evolution:
    Installed: 3.2.3-0ubuntu6
    Candidate: 3.2.3-0ubuntu6
    Version table:
   *** 3.2.3-0ubuntu6 0
          500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ precise/main i386 Packages
          100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

  3) What is expected to happen is when I setup Evolution to receive
E-Mail via Edit -> Preferences -> highlight the one Enabled account ->
button Edit -> tab Sending Email -> Server Type: SMTP -> Server:
  smtp.gmail.com -> Port: 465 -> Server requires authentication checked
-> Use secure connection: SSL encryption -> Type: Login -> User Name:
<MYACTUALUSERNAME> -> Remember password checkbox checked -> Apply

  I can successfully send E-Mails.

  4) What happens instead is this does not occur. When one hits the Send
icon, it spins for a few seconds and then just stops indefinitely
until one hits Cancel or terminates Evolution.

The same settings work in Windows Mail via Windows Vista. These correct
settings are exactly mentioned in gmail support article:
  http://support.google.com/mail/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=13287

This article also mentions if problems exist, it is not supported by
gmail and one would have to consult the vendor of the software instead
  of Google.

In addition, I can receive email with no problem.

  Reproducible in Quantal Xubuntu:

  lsb_release -rd
  Description: Ubuntu quantal (development branch)
  Release: 12.10

  apt-cache policy evolution
  evolution:
    Installed: 3.5.90-0ubuntu1
    Candidate: 3.5.90-0ubuntu1
    Version table:
   *** 3.5.90-0ubuntu1 0
          500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ quantal/main i386 Packages
          100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
