Thank you for your response. If the problem is a result of the specific PDF file and not with the Evince package, then how come the same PDF file is rendered perfectly by another PDF viewer such as Google Chrome browser. Does it still indicate the PDF file in question is problematic and not Evince?.

For example, I can view this particular PDF http://www.gnupg.org/gph/en/manual.pdf in chrome browser properly but when I view it in evince, it renders every embedded link inside a red box which is quiet unpleasant to view. I tested the same PDF file with a new user and the same behavior persists. Most other PDF files are rendered properly though. 1) Ubuntu release: Description: Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS Release: 12.04 2) Package version: Evince 3.4.0-0ubuntu1.3 3) Expected behavior: The document viewer should render the embedded links of PDF files without the enclosing red boxes. 4) Observed behavior: The document viewer renders all the embedded links of PDF files enclosed in red boxes. This, however, does not happen with other PDF files.
