I'm taking this bug to mean that Empathy should add support for all of the graphical emoticons that are available in other IM applications. I can say I am experiencing this problem as well, as one of my friends with Trillian likes sending me all sorts of emoticons that I can't make out on my end. Whether this could actually be considered a bug, I'm not sure.

If not create all this emoticons by defalut, Empathy could provide, like Pidgin, a way to add more emoticons.
