Possibly related: Bug #1049179 “Inkscape crashes when "Save as" or "Save a copy..." is pressed” (Invalid) (apparently upstream issue in (undisclosed) gtk theme under KDE - most likely Oxygen-gtk) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to inkscape in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1003368 Title: Inkscape crashes when trying to open or to save a file Status in Inkscape: A Vector Drawing Tool: New Status in “inkscape” package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: OS: Ubuntu 12.04 (precise), 64 bit Inkscape version: 0.48.3.1 r9886 Package version: 0.48.3.1-1ubuntu1 Bug description: Inkscape (installed via Ubuntu's package manager) crashes when trying to open or to save a file. Steps to reproduce: 1. Start Inkscape. 2. Press toolbar icon for opening a file. Then a popup with the message "Inkscape encountered an internal error and will close now" appears and inkscape prints the following lines on console: | Emergency save activated! | Emergency save completed. Inkscape will close now. | If you can reproduce this crash, please file a bug at www.inkscape.org | with a detailed description of the steps leading to the crash, so we can fix it. As I mentioned above the same error appears when I try to save a file by clicking the save button in the toolbar. I tried to run inkscape via gdb but gdb did not find debugging symbols for the ubuntu version of inkscape. I also did not find a package called inkscape-dbg.
