Uname output: "Linux awesome 3.5.0-14-generic #19-Ubuntu SMP Fri Sep 14 20:21:51 UTC 2012 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux" My graphics chip is this (from lspci): 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] nee ATI M97 GL [ATI FirePro M7740] Open-source graphics drive working okay, but I wanted to use the Catalyst driver. So I downloaded "amd-driver- installer-8.982-x86.x86_64.run" from AMD's website, and used it to build "Ubuntu/quantal" debian packages. That went okay, so I installed them using "sudo dpkg -i *.deb" in the directory containing the packages. I got the following output from that dpkg invocation: cjc@awesome:~/packages/x$ sudo dpkg -i *.deb Selecting previously unselected package fglrx.
