Evince in Ubuntu 12.10 Beta "Quantal Quetzal" supports XPS.
Unfortunately, this isn't really fixable in 12.04 since 12.04 is in
Feature Freeze.

  evince does not open .xps (XML Paper Specification ) files

Bug description:
  Xubuntu/Ubuntu 12.04.1

  The "evince" viewer does not read .xps files. When open, it shows the 
following error "File type Zip archive (application/zip) is not supported"
  The  http://packages.ubuntu.com/precise/libgxps2 where installed but it´s 
does not he lp. 

  The ldd /usr/bin/evince command shows nothing about XPS libraries.

  The upstream has XPS, also this bug was noted here:
