This is extra annoying because when the hw mute is enabled, you will hear no sound, regardless of the ALSA mute state.
When the hw mute is out of sync with the ALSA mute, you don't need to reboot, you can just bring it back in sync by manipulating the ALSA mute. The hw mute status is toggled when the hw mute button is pressed (though that also generates a keyboard event). Also, when using the hardware volume keys the mute state will be disabled. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to alsa-driver in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/875642 Title: [428449G, Conexant CX20590, Speaker, Internal] No sound at all Status in “alsa-driver” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Linux stevieray 3.0.0-12-generic #20-Ubuntu SMP Fri Oct 7 14:56:25 UTC 2011 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux http://www.alsa- project.org/db/?f=9e7215a5e45eef9d84db6ad4c95a78dd347eade7 ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 11.10 Package: alsa-base 1.0.24+dfsg-0ubuntu2 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.0.0-12.20-generic 3.0.4 Uname: Linux 3.0.0-12-generic x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia AlsaVersion: Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 1.0.24.
