Title:
NetworkManager keeps asking for wireless password again if signal weak
Status in “network-manager” package in Ubuntu:
Expired
Bug description:
I'm running Ubuntu 10.04.4 LTS, on a wireless netbook.
NetworkManager keeps asking for the password to my wireless connection
repeatedly, if the signal gets weak, or interrupted for any reason.
The password is unchanged. However, NetworkManager keeps believing
that the password is wrong.
This has two problems:
1) While the password window is displayed, the connection is lost.
There's no way to automatically dismiss the password window.
NetworkManager will not retry again in the background, so Internet
connectivity is lost until this machine can be manually visited in
person and the prompt dismissed. This is especially bad if the
machine is left unattended.
2) It's a user irritation to have to keep dismissing the same password
window repeatedly. It's a needless step, especially if it's just a
momentary glitch in the connectivity. It takes longer to dismiss the
password window than it does to re-establish the connection after the
window closes! Obviously, the window should never have appeared in
the first place.
It would be great if NetworkManager had a checkbox that says "[X] I
know this password is correct, do not prompt me again, simply try
again in the background"!
