tried manual install of nvidia current driver: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:upubuntu-com/nvidia
sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install nvidia-current and when running NVIDIA x server settings a dialog says to run sudo invidia-xconfig, which I did, then rebooted. The display is still low res default driver. Nvidia driver is not running.
