microphone does not work

Bug description:
the condenser microphone is not working. all other sound functioning
properly ubuntu 12.04 LTS. i am using my google chromium browser and
gmail to make phone calls and i can hear the dialtone and voice but
they cant hear me. pulseaudio is the sound package by default.
