This issue is still present in Ubuntu 11.04 and earlier releases.
However, I notice tabbing between the textfields work as expected in
network-manager-gnome 0.9.1.90-0ubuntu6.1 on Ubuntu 11.10 and later
releases. Therefore I believe this bug can be considered fixed.

Title:
manual IP entry does not behave as expected

Status in “network-manager-applet” package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
While editing for example IPv4 settings: (setting manual ip)
after typing address, it's not possible to move to netmask by pressing TAB.
pressing TAB moves to next field, but any entry will be invalid, unless user
presses TAB and then space...

it feels very strange, like a bug.
pressing space should not be necessary.
also note, that after moving from address to netmask/gw using TAB, but no
space, allows ip entry, but when user is done, it disappears... annoying.
