Bug description:
Possible cause - I prefer gnome-shell but it's been misbehaving so I
just switched back to Unity (Ubuntu session) when this started
happening. I'm using gdm, not lightdm, because 1) it's been tested
more with gnome-shell (I think) and 2) the lightdm greeter won't let
me switch my "session" to gnome-shell. (Not relevant, I know).
