Just installed the latest pulseaudio updates - no change. During boot up, it sounds like someone testing a microphone with a sharp object twice, but other sounds have a staccatissimo burst.

I've tested it on my 64 bit partition as well with the same result. I don't know if it's pulseaudio causing the problem and it doesn't affect my internal speakers.
