Title:
evince package doesn't provide /etc/mailcap entry for application/pdf
Status in “evince” package in Ubuntu:
Confirmed
Bug description:
I have the "evince" PDF reader installed but it doesn't appear to
register a handler for "application/pdf" in /etc/mailcap (via update-
mime). This result in "evince" not being used by some applications
that rely on /etc/mailcap for finding out which application to use for
which MIME types. The application I noticed this with was the Gnus
MUA inside Emacs, but there may be others. Gnus falls back to an
internal default of "gv" which fails because I didn't have that
installed. Still, had evince provided proper /etc/mailcap
information, everything would have worked.
jas@latte:~$ grep pdf /etc/mailcap
image/pdf; display 'pdf:'%s''; test=test -n "$DISPLAY"
jas@latte:~$ dpkg -l|grep evince
