I have seen problems with the menus in LibreOffice as well - there were no menus in the top bar and no commands showing up in the HUD. I followed the suggestion on Bug #1061225 to install the "lo-menu" package and that restored the menu to the top bar but still no change to the HUD.
Are the two issues unrelated? And why is the lo-menu package not installed by default?
