Thanks for your bug report and helping to make Ubuntu better. What
version of empathy are you using? 'empathy --version' in terminal. Do
the messages come in at the same time where as the first may show but be
overlapped with the second message, or are they far enough apart that
the first message is not shown.

first message not showing in gnome message bar

Bug description:
when using xmpp(gtalk) when a message comes in from a new contact(in
contact list and not) the notification sound goes off and the user
shows in the message bar but the message text does not, show for the
first line they sent.
example using gmail.com
Someone: Hi
Someone: How are you?
Me: Fine
Example using Empathy:
Someone: How are you?
Me: Fine
