Thanks for this report, and sorry for the slow response. Since you say the problem also occurs with Synaptic, this is probably a problem in apt, not in USC. Moving there.
If you still experience the problem, you could also help get this bug fixed by providing the error message: 1. close Ubuntu Software Center (or Synaptic), if it's open already 2. enter the command "software-center" (or "sudo synaptic") in a Terminal window 3. trigger the error 4. copy any error output from the Terminal window, and paste it into this bug report. ** Package changed: software-center (Ubuntu) => apt (Ubuntu) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to software-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/682879 Title: Installation of software from the software centre often stalls halfway, and never continues. It also prevents the pc from shutting down (hours later) Status in “apt” package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Binary package hint: software-center Often when I want to install new software from the software centre, the installation stalls halfway, and never continues. Today I tried to install Blender, but it also happened when trying to install LMMS, Muse, and other audio/video software. Installing from synaptic is more succesful, though not always.
