cannot connect to google talk

Bug description:
The default settings for a "Google Talk" protocol account do not work
with google talk. If the "Google Talk" protocol is selected in pidgin
the default settings should work with Google Talk.
Method to reproduce:
1. Start Pidgin
2. Accounts->Manage Accounts->Add
3. Settings as below:
Protocol: google talk
Username: apunchhtc
All other settings default.
4. Click Add
5. Click Close
6. Google Talk never connects
Expected: Pidgin should connect to google talk
The following settings are required for Google Talk to work, they should be
the default:
* Advanced:
- Connection security: Use old-style SSL
- Connect Port: 443
- Connect Server: talk.google.com
