@Jochen: Are you sure it worked ? I tried to reinstall the fglrx-updates
and though it was installed I got an error that there was an error
installing fglrx-updates:
Error! Application of patch fix-build-issue-on-i386-where-TS_USEDFPU-is-
no-longe.patch failed.
So the modules is not installed in dkms.
Why is there a i386 patch on AMD64?
Due to the problem I reverted back to the original driver and removed
fglrx-updates.

Bug description:
Hi, i updated my 11.10 to 12.04 and i can' t get fglrx to work properly.
i tried jockey and manuel installation, removing everything and doing it
again. But somehow it alwas ends up not working correctly.
my current Xorg. log contains
[ 2118.333] (EE) fglrx(0): atiddxDriScreenInit failed, GPS not been
initialized.
[ 2118.363] (EE) fglrx(0): XMM failed to open CMMQS connection.(EE)

which hints to the fact that the kernel module is missing
and jockey gives somthing like
