thank you for your bug report, that's a duplicate of an old request
though, closing the bug (if some bug triager is wanting to look for the
number of the other bug that would be great)

Title:
Nautilus doesn't allow you to enter the sudo password and perform as
root actions for which you don't have permissions
Status in “nautilus” package in Ubuntu:
Invalid
Bug description:
Steps to reproduce:
- In Nautilus, Navigate to a folder that contains some file of which you are
not the owner and for which you don't have write permissions
- either Select such a file and hit the "delete" key
- OR right click on it and select "move to trash"
Expected behavior: a prompt should appear warning that you don't have
enough privileges and allowing you to ENTER YOUR PASSWORD and perform
the action in a sudo.
Observed behavior: the action obviously fails because of denied
access, you get an error but no option at all to enter the password
and confirm you want to do that as root.
The same applies to navigating into directories for which you don't have read
(or is it execute?) permissions. Instead of just denying you to view their
contents, it sould prompt you for the sudo password, or allow you to do so, for
example by providing an entry in the right-click dropdown menu that would be
something like "open as root", or whatever (maybe with some special icon next
to it) that would prompt you for the password.
