Ubuntu 9.04 is end of life. Have you seen this in more recent Ubuntu
versions?

  When using USB mobile broadband, connection immediately disconnects

Status in “network-manager” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  When using USB mobile broadband, connection immediately disconnects.This has 
happened with three different USB-connections,in three different counbtries, ie 
irrespective of make of connection and isp-provider.  The connection seems to 
be ok a fraction of a second, then disconnects.
  My release is 9.04 - but I recently tried on my ASUS netbook with NMR 9.10, 
same problem.
