Can someone please confirm if this is still an issue? I can't test it
just now, but I seem to remember dragging files out of Nautilus and onto
the desktop in either 12.04 or 12.10, and observing them to sit where I
dropped them.

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: file-roller

  When extracting something to the desktop from file-roller using drag'n'drop, 
the item is not placed where the mouse cursor was when the mouse button is 
raised but at a random spot.
  This is happening for me on hardy.
