Nicholas, thanks for the report. It's unlikely anyone can use this bug
report to improve Firefox unless there are steps to reproduce the
problem. Since you don't see the problem any more yourself, I'm marking
this Incomplete.

  Exremely slow drop-down menus

Status in “firefox” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: firefox

  Right-clicking anywhere in the page or accessing any drop-down menus
  causes Firefox to hang for about 15 seconds, after which the menu may
  or may not actually open. Otherwise the browser works fine.

  Using 64-bit Ubuntu 10.10 with all updates installed.
  Using Firefox without any custom addons installed.
