Gnome bug #328971 is about tags, this one (Gnome bug #556828) about album entries, both reports are open and seem forgotten, probably they wont be fixed upstream in a close future, the attached patch never was accepted in upstream and isn't applicable in ubuntu anymore.
It's present in 2.98-0ubuntu1 (raring) and there is also a report in Debian #680584 (which may indicate they also have it). I'm not programmer, however, maybe someone in the ninja papercut team knows C and can provide a patch. ** Bug watch added: GNOME Bug Tracker #556828 https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=556828 ** Changed in: rhythmbox Importance: Medium => Unknown ** Changed in: rhythmbox Status: Confirmed => Unknown ** Changed in: rhythmbox Remote watch: GNOME Bug Tracker #328971 => GNOME Bug Tracker #556828 ** Bug watch added: Debian Bug tracker #680584 http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=680584 ** Also affects: rhythmbox (Debian) via http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=680584 Importance: Unknown Status: Unknown -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to rhythmbox in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/58941 Title: omit Album information for files w/o album information Status in One Hundred Paper Cuts: Confirmed Status in The Rhythmbox Music Management Application: Unknown Status in “rhythmbox” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in “rhythmbox” package in Debian: Unknown Bug description: Currently, when a new song starts which does not have an "Album" entry, the notification bubble and the track information bar say: "<title> by <artist> from Unknown" I'd say it would look nicer if Rhythmbox would just omit the "from Unknown" (or whatever it says with LANG=C) if there is no Album tag (empty string or only nonprintable chars) in the file.
