I've never been able to reproduce this (tried on 9.10, 10.04....12.10)
so I'm going to mark it invalid. Please reopen it if you disagree and
can still reproduce it.

in karmic alpha, clicking and dragging a note to the desktop fails and

the only extra information I can think of is that karmic is
continueally starting on display:1, due to the virtual box display
plugin failing to load at boot.
