PolicyKit problems after update
Status in “policykit-1” package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
After updating ubuntu the other day a number of things broke likely
related to policykit errors I'm seeing in syslog:

'org.freedesktop.PolicyKit1' failed: Cannot launch daemon, file not found or
permissions invalid
The issues I'm seeing after the update are:
* login names do not show up in lightdm, I have to type them
* I can no longer login with gnome-shell, it hangs showing only the background
* Unity works but with problems
** I see [Invalid UTF-8] as the title of the login menu.
** User accounts UI doesn't work (likely do to policy kit not working)
