Title:
no applet transparency on fallback gnome-panel
Status in “gnome-panel” package in Ubuntu:
Confirmed
Bug description:
I am using the GNOME 3 fallback mode on Ubuntu 12.10
I set a panel with transparent background [1]
==> As a result,
- the free areas of the panel are transparent
- But all the applets get a solid background color,
instead of a transparent one.
for example indicators, the clock applet, the character palette applet,
etc.
it makes some applets unreadable like the clock or the character palette
- there is one exception: the launchers get a proper transparent background
I am using the Ambiance theme.
This seems (?) to be the same story as with bug 349774 [2], but with
the GNOME 3 technology (GTK3 / CSS). As far as I understand (?) the
theme sets a hardcoded solid/gradient bacground, so when you set a
transparent background to the panel, the applets keep an hardcoded
solid background. Then maybe (?) something to do with
/usr/share/themes/Ambiance/gtk-3.0/apps/gnome-panel.css. Just a guess.
I may be completely wrong.
[1] steps to set transparent panel
Alt-right click on the panel
select Properties
select Background
check Solid color
set Style to some level of transparency
