Actually the bug-reporting app didn't attach very much info due to the
package.

If this is still occurring on Ubuntu 12.10 "Quantal Quetzal" can you
please tell us which CPU and video card/chip you have? If it works OK
on 12.10 feel free to change the status of this bug from "New" to "Fix
Released".

Title:
gstreamer will not play .MOV files smoothly

Status in “gstreamer0.10” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
playback is very choppy, actually more like viewing a slide show...
assuming the app will attach the information gained I hope it will
help. I am a very newbie with Ubuntu and linux in general but so far
I am beginning to really enjoy it since it has come a long way in
recent years. I would even say so much as to perhaps nothing more
than a video driver relationship to the problem....but it's in your
  ball court ;>{)
