Title:
Pulseaudio does not use audio hardware, has only pseudo output
  [quantal]

Status in “pulseaudio” package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
Hello. I have noticed that even though I can use alsamixer and the
sound module is loaded on my thinkpad laptop, pulseaudio does not
recognize it and instead only shows "pseudo output" in sound settings.
I dist-upgraded from previous ubuntu stable and noticed the problem. I
think I have the same problem in my eee laptop which was installed
  directly from an usb stick.
