Title:
Bug 554718 sda is a fixed disk system

Status in “policykit-1” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: udisks

Bug 554718 sda is a fixed hard drive
attempting to upgrade ubuntu 8.04.3 generic (on sdb6) to 10.04.1
  this was unsuccessful
so Iwas attempting to recover by using another drive (sdb7 also 8.04.3
generic)
  and using the command:
    :
  sudo dpkg --root /media/hdb6 -i
/media/hdb6/var/cache/apt/archives/policykit-1_0.96-2_i386.deb
    :
  which gave the following response:
    :
  Setting up policykit-1 (0.96-2) ...
  start-stop-daemon: nothing in /proc - not mounted?
  dpkg: error processing policykit-1 (--install):
subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 2
  Processing triggers for man-db ...
  Errors were encountered while processing:
   policykit-1
  hilmar@hilmar-desktop:~$
     :
which looks very much like Bug 554718 only instead of sda being a flashcard
drive
its an old fireball ct 30 fixed drive

I am making extensive use of GRUB:

   sda1 windows 98 se
   sda5 redhat

   sdb1 ubuntu 8.04.3 i386
   sdb5 ubuntu 8.04.3 i386
   sdb6 8.04.3 generic
   sdb7 8.04.3 generic
    :
(various other operating systems in various states of repair)
    :
I am mentioning this because numerous dosfsck errors and error files
have been cropping up on 2 of my windows 98se volumes
on drive sda since I started this upgrade.
Which might be happening if devicekit-disks/udisks is trying to umount sda?
I was not able to find "devicekit-disks" anywhere on sdb6 or on sdb7 probably
because
of the name change to "udisks" which does exist on both volumes.
I tried again using the 2010 sep 20 upgrades on dpkg and the bug lives on! on
udisks.
