I found something. It seems related to LD_LIBRARY_PATH.
As a simple user, If I type

declare -x LD_LIBRARY_PATH=

after that direct rendering is working fine
Any idea ?

Title:
nvidia driver no direct rendering unless root

Status in “nvidia-graphics-drivers” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  Hi,

I have no direct rendering unless using sudo.

  sol@CALC1:~$ export LIBGL_DEBUG=verbose; glxinfo | grep direct
  libGL: OpenDriver: trying /usr/lib64/dri/swrast_dri.so
  libGL error: dlopen /usr/lib64/dri/swrast_dri.so failed
(/usr/lib64/dri/swrast_dri.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or
directory)
libGL error: unable to load driver: swrast_dri.so
libGL error: reverting to indirect rendering
direct rendering: No (If you want to find out why, try setting
LIBGL_DEBUG=verbose)

  But

  sol@CALC1:~$ sudo LIBGL_DEBUG=verbose glxinfo | grep direct
  direct rendering: Yes
      GL_EXT_Cg_shader, GL_EXT_depth_bounds_test, GL_EXT_direct_state_access,

It seems to be a perms problem.
I am a member of root and video groups.

  sol@CALC1:~$ ls -la /dev/nvi*
  crw-rw-rw- 1 root root 195, 0 nov. 14 14:11 /dev/nvidia0
  crw-rw-rw- 1 root root 195, 255 nov. 14 14:11 /dev/nvidiactl

Is it a symlink problem occuring only for non root user ?
  I don't have any lib64 folder in /usr
  sol@CALC1:~$ locate swrast
  /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/dri/swrast_dri.so
  /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/dri/swrast_dri.so

  sol@CALC1:~$ lspci -v | grep VGA
02:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation GT218 [NVS 300] (rev
a2) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller])

  Ubuntu 12.04
  kernel 3.2.0-32-generic
  Nvidia driver 295.40
  Arch x86_64
