Title:
nm-applet doesn't apply ipv4 changes without resetting connection (or
  it disconnects)

Status in “network-manager” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
I have tested this on multiple systems with recent versions of lucid 64-bit.
It has been observed on both wired and wireless connections.
  My current one:
  Acer Aspire 1410
Lucid installed from daily-live cd from April 12th.

The simplest way to reproduce this is to go to your wireless or wired
connection in nm-applet (network-manager-gnome applet) and change the ipv4
settings from "automatic (DHCP)" to "automatic (DHCP) addresses only." Then
enter Google's Public DNS servers "8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4" (without the quotes)
(presumably other DNS servers would work.) You can read about Google's service
here, I am simply using it as a practical example.
  http://code.google.com/speed/public-dns/
After hitting apply, either the new settings won't go into effect, or the
connection will disconnect.

This was not observed before upgrading from Ubuntu 9.10 to lucid on at
  least one machine.

The workaround is to click on the connection name/entry in nm-applet
  to force it to reconnect.
