So perhaps the proper fix would be showing the option only if
XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP environment variable is  "unity" or if Compiz is
running, if the option is not specific to Unity.

  Cannot turn off Sticky Edges in Displays

  In Displays within Switchboard, disabling 'Sticky Edges' does not
  work. Whenever the option is toggled off, it looks as if it has
  changed, but if you go back into the setting it is set back to
  enabled.
