Title:
No way to change how right click and middle click works on a touchpad.
Status in “gnome-control-center” package in Ubuntu:
Confirmed
Bug description:
I have a Dell Studio 1558 whose trackpad has physical buttons for left and
right click. So I don't need the right click functionality from my touchpad.
I also do not need middle click functionality.
But gnome-control-center automatically sets two-finger touch to right click.
Now its very easy to double tap accidentally and it seems to happen every now
and then which is very annoying.
Even more annoying is the middle click functionality which is activated
whenever I
tap in the top right corner of the touchpad. Problem is that I use Google
Chrome,
and middle clicking on a tab in Chrome closes it. Many times when I press on
a tab
it closes, because I accidentally tap on the top right corner, which is very
annoying.
I don't have a big touchpad so this happens quite frequently.
There is no way to edit this behaviour from the toucpad settings.
I tried to turn it off by manually editing
/etc/X11/xorg.conf. But with no profit since it seems gnome-control-center
resets the binding every time the computer starts.
I earlier filed a bug in Gnome Bugzilla and they said that the problem is
only caused
by the Ubuntu's patched version.
I am using Ubuntu Precise.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
So please either remove the functionality given that I have hardware buttons
for them
or provide a way to configure it from the touchpad settings.
