Title:
  Mint 13 Mate sound output changes to HDMI from 5.1 surround sound

Status in “gnome-control-center” package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
  On each startup or restart sound preference is changed from built in
  Audio Surround 5.1 to Radeon HDMI (Radeon HD 3000-3300 Series) which
  is not connected on this system.  GA-MA790GPT-UD3H, Phenom ii X 4 965
  BE w/ 8Gb DDR3 1333

  Can only be corrected by going in manually to sound preferences and
  changeing Output to the correct device/driver.
