Ghristopher, there are numerous filings for both the headset connection not working and for the browsing issue. The fact that the problem is solved by reverting back to the older bluez package speaks for itself. Any package above bluez_4.84-0ubuntu1_i386.deb will break usability for me. I have spent enough time trying to pinpoint the problem. I use THINKPAD X41 (bluetooth chip v 1.2).
