x11-xserver-utils is not the right package. It is pcmanfm that crashes and relaunching it with "pcmanfm --desktop --profile lubuntu" is a workaround.

At one time I thought I had a workaround by ln -s ~/Skrivbord ~/Desktop which is my localized name of Desktop, but it only worked the first time. I find no logs with hints, currently I only know of one way of getting the icons back which is reboot. Adjusting resolution or turning on laptopmonitor has no effect.
