Fixed by removing the icon. It never worked anyway, IIRC it was meant to
show your current wallpaper.

Title:
show desktop icon in launcher is ugly

Status in Ayatana Design:

Status in “ubuntu-themes” package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
The "show desktop" icon in the launcher is very ugly.
It does not fit with the other icons, primarily with the "switch workspace"
icon. Both of the icons show a symbolic monitor, but the one in the "show
desktop" icon is inappropriate in its width and has to thick borders.

I have made a new icon and attached it. It hopefully fits better, but
it's just a rough and ready first attempt. ;)
