it happens to me when i go full screen on a flash video or on a mp4
video on vlc, but is not that often in vlc like in a flash video. almost
every flash video after a while the sound breaks and then nothing.. the
vlc is not always just some time..

Title:
[CA0106 - CA0106] Playback problem - sound disappears during watching
  video

Status in “alsa-driver” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I am running Ubuntu 10.10 with 2.6.35-23-generic kernel with all of
the latest updates. The problem exists since I have upgraded to 10.04.
  Sometimes the following commands helps:

  killall pulseaduio
  sudo /sbin/alsa force-reload
  pulseaudio
but manz times not. Ususally I get this message after the reload:

  htpc-user@Snow-HTPC:~$ sudo /sbin/alsa force-reload
