Thanks for the workaround!
I didn't have a ~/.config/gtk-3.0 folder for some reason, but with an mkdir 
things worked fine:

mkdir ~/.config/gtk-3.0
ln -sf ~/.gtk-bookmarks ~/.config/gtk-3.0/bookmarks

  Folders bookmarks not showing in places

Bug description:
  Ubuntu 12.10, using Gnome Classic with compiz.
  I have some bookmarks added in nautilus, but not showing in places menu.
  I used this in Ubuntu 12.04 with not problem.
