Hallo Michael Thank you for responding. The problem is not caused by Simple Scan. Simple Scan supports my scanner perfectly. However both Simple Scan and XSANE can be used to reproduce a USB problem which leads to system freeze. The freeze happens if the scanner is not listed in first position of USB device enumeration.
