It appears also on Xubuntu 12.10, 32-bit, Dell Inspiron 7520. Several days worked properly and, maybe after kind of automatic update, failed.

This bug looks a lot like #1023004, I opened a new one because the old one is "fix released" with no-one assigned to. The install is fresh on a new laptop. I have since switched to the xorg-bleeding PPA, but this did not fix the problem. I am also now using the trunk PPA of inkscape, without change of behaviour.
