Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy. Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

I list here the lines i find most relevant to the topic: /0 bus B75A-G43 (MS-7758) /0/40 processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-3450 CPU @ 3.10GHz /0/100/1/0 display NVIDIA Corporation /0/100/2 display Xeon E3-1200 v2/3rd Gen Core processor Graphics Controller I have two monitors, a Samsung S27B350 Display and a 22" BenQ display. When both are connected, and i turn the PC ON: - Both Monitors switch ON from the standby mode - The monitor connected to the initial display card shows the Ubuntu Log-in screen - The second monitor is showing a blinking dash in upper left corner - The system is detecting only one monitor which is the monitor connected to the NVidia display card (which is set as initial) Here is the output of the disper -l command: $ disper -l display CRT-0: Samsung S27B350 resolutions: 640x480, 800x600, 1024x768, 1280x720, 1152x864, 1280x800, 1440x900, 1280x1024, 1600x900, 1680x1050, 1920x1080 I tried: - System Settings -> Displays -> (Detect Displays) - Nvidia X Server Settings -> X Server Display Configuration -> (Detect Displays) but the second display was not detected... i also think i unveiled a security issue while i was trying... :-) If i Ctrl + Alt + F1 to access the shell, the second monitor (the one with the blinking dash in the left corner) is activated in the shell mode that asks for the username and password. Although the second monitor have focus whatever i type on the keyboard is also shown in the first monitor the one with lighdm... ===> If i start gedit in monitor 0 then Ctrl + Alt + F1, type my username and password, i am able to see them in clear text being written at every key stroke...!!! After 12 hours of experimenting with drivers, X.org and so on... i gave up... I booted from windows and had both screen running with one click!!! isn't that frustrating! $ sudo lshw -short H/W path Device Class Description ====================================================== system Quattro Power Station GTX 650 Ti (To be filled by O.E.M.) /0 bus B75A-G43 (MS-7758) /0/0 memory 64KiB BIOS /0/3c memory 1MiB L2 cache /0/3d memory 256KiB L1 cache /0/3e memory 6MiB L3 cache /0/3f memory 8GiB System Memory /0/3f/0 memory DIMM [empty] /0/3f/1 memory 4GiB DIMM DDR3 Synchronous 1333 MHz (0,8 ns) /0/3f/2 memory DIMM [empty] /0/3f/3 memory 4GiB DIMM DDR3 Synchronous 1333 MHz (0,8 ns) /0/40 processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-3450 CPU @ 3.10GHz /0/100 bridge Xeon E3-1200 v2/3rd Gen Core processor DRAM Controller /0/100/1 bridge Xeon E3-1200 v2/3rd Gen Core processor PCI Express Root Port /0/100/1/0 display NVIDIA Corporation /0/100/1/0.1 multimedia NVIDIA Corporation /0/100/2 display Xeon E3-1200 v2/3rd Gen Core processor Graphics Controller /0/100/14 bus 7 Series/C210 Series Chipset Family USB xHCI Host Controller /0/100/16 communication 7 Series/C210 Series Chipset Family MEI Controller #1 /0/100/1a bus 7 Series/C210 Series Chipset Family USB Enhanced Host Controller #2 /0/100/1b multimedia 7 Series/C210 Series Chipset Family High Definition Audio Controller /0/100/1c bridge 7 Series/C210 Series Chipset Family PCI Express Root Port 1 /0/100/1c.1 bridge 7 Series/C210 Series Chipset Family PCI Express Root Port 2 /0/100/1c.1/0 eth0 network RTL8111/8168B PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet controller /0/100/1d bus 7 Series/C210 Series Chipset Family USB Enhanced Host Controller #1 /0/100/1e bridge 82801 PCI Bridge /0/100/1f bridge B75 Express Chipset LPC Controller /0/100/1f.2 storage 7 Series/C210 Series Chipset Family 6-port SATA Controller [AHCI mode] /0/100/1f.3 bus 7 Series/C210 Series Chipset Family SMBus Controller /0/1 scsi0 storage /0/1/0.0.0 /dev/sda disk 120GB Samsung SSD 840 /0/1/0.0.0/1 /dev/sda1 volume 64GiB Windows NTFS volume /0/1/0.0.0/2 /dev/sda2 volume 46GiB Extended partition /0/1/0.0.0/2/5 /dev/sda5 volume 38GiB Linux filesystem partition /0/1/0.0.0/2/6 /dev/sda6 volume 8124MiB Linux swap / Solaris partition /0/2 scsi1 storage /0/2/0.0.0 /dev/sdb disk 2TB WDC WD20EARX-00P /0/2/0.0.0/1 /dev/sdb1 volume 111GiB Windows NTFS volume /0/2/0.0.0/2 /dev/sdb2 volume 1751GiB EXT4 volume /0/3 scsi2 storage /0/3/0.0.0 /dev/cdrom disk DVDRAM GH24NS95 /0/4 scsi6 storage /0/4/0.0.0 /dev/sdc disk SCSI Disk /0/4/0.0.1 /dev/sdd disk SCSI Disk /0/4/0.0.2 /dev/sde disk SCSI Disk /0/4/0.0.3 /dev/sdf disk MS/MS-Pro /0/4/0.0.3/0 /dev/sdf disk /1 power To Be Filled By O.E.M. ** Affects: gnome-disk-utility (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are subscribed to the bug report. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1103789 Title: Ubuntu 12.10 Dual Monitors Display Not Detected, NVidia and PCI Intel Integrated Device Status in “gnome-disk-utility” package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: I've been an Ubuntu User (and fan) since 2006.
