To be able to assess the error I need to know where the latency is
creeping in - is it CPU bound or is there a presentation delay would be
the two most likely causes.

Title:
unacceptable mplayer performance on hd playback in natty

Status in “xserver-xorg-video-intel” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

Playing HD videos in mplayer generally worked in maverick (some minor
audio issues, perhaps, but that's another story). In natty,
performance is unacceptable. Not sure how to measure this, but it
feels as if playback is < 10 fps.
