Title:
i915 display corruption on Acer Aspire S5

Status in “xserver-xorg-video-intel” package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
After a fresh install of 12.04.1 and an upgrade to 12.10 I am
experiencing a bug where the display is corrupted/flickering; colors
are non-existent and part of the screen is cut off. I am able to work
around the problem by suspending the laptop and then resuming it. I
googled this problem and it appears that others are experiencing it
with different laptops. It may very well be the problem described in
  detail here:

  http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=690198

If I boot into the 12.10 installer I get the very same issue.
However, booting into the 12.04.1 installer everything works as it
should (no display corruption). I am willing to test out any
  suggested fixes.
