Title:
  [gm45] screen corruption when DefaultDepth = 16

Status in “xserver-xorg-video-intel” package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

  Hello,

My system works fine at the default depth of 24. However, if I create
  a /etc/X11/xorg.conf with the contents

  Section "Screen"
       Identifier "screen 1"
       DefaultDepth 16
  EndSection

horizontal lines (looking like static on an old TV) show up when I am using
Firefox on some pages. In particular, when I am using my organization's Zimbra
webmail system moving the mouse over message headers in the inbox causes those
horizontal lines to appear. This always happens when the mouse is hovering over
messages about half-way down the screen (center height).

I also found another situation in which this happens. When I open
gnome-terminal and then run jed to open a file with long lines of text
around the center of the screen, moving the cursor over those center
text lines causes the horizontal corruption to appear, too.

None of this happens if I remove the /etc/X11/xorg.conf (ie, if I run
at 24 depth). Unfortunately 24bit depth prevents me from using some
  higher resolutions.

  Best
