In the 5 weeks since I reported this, I've experienced 8 more screen freezes (i.e. about one every 4 days). The proprietary nvidia drivers don't work for me, for whatever reason, so I'm stuck with a buggy nouveau driver. This is really getting old, and I'm thinking about downgrading to 12.04, or maybe leaving Ubuntu altogether for something like Mint.
