Title:
PCI/internal sound card not detected ADI Soundmax AD1984A

Status in “alsa-driver” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  Codec: Analog Devices AD1984A
  Codec: LSI ID 1040
  HP 6735s notebook/laptop
  Ubuntu 12.10 Quantal/Quetzal

Speakers do work, but sound is scratchy, tinny and of poor quality. I
would like to know if the speakers are damaged or something wrong with
the sound card? When I ran ubuntu-bug -s audio I noticed that the tool
didn't seem to pick up the codec or sound card. I know my speakers are
black and attached to a green board. I hope I don't have to open it up
again to check?! HP laptops are so not useful for hacking! Is there a
way of finding out if the speakers are damaged or the driver not
working right, without having to hack into it? Is there a better
debugging tool you could guide me on?

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Nick.
