Thanks! It does indeed say 2.21.2.

However, this hasn't stopped the crashes, I'm afraid. On launching
Firefox this morning, X crashed straight out to the Ubuntu login screen
again. I'd say this happens at least 50 percent of the time. Sometimes
I'll have to try to start Firefox three or four times (each time X will
crash out to the login) before it gets up and running.

Once the system and my apps are running (sometimes, though not so
frequently, having started Firefox successfully, I'll then launch, say,
Thunderbird or another app and a crash will happen) the system will then
not crash until I choose to shut down. It's very rare indeed for a crash
to happen once I've got past the startup crashes. It seems very odd to
me!

Thanks again.

Title:
  Update to bug #944626

Status in “xserver-xorg-video-intel” package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
Further to bug#937706 (which subsequently became bug #944626 as a
result of xdiagnose output) it does indeed seem I was tempting fate
  with my previous post.

Having had no crashes for a couple of days, update manager installed a
new version of the kernel, plus some other updates. Upon logging in
for the first time, immediately after the desktop was drawn, there was
a crash. I had not launched any apps or given any input to the system
  - it just went straight back out to the login screen.

Should I report further information, or should I stop posting
  xdiagnose output like this?
